Intrepid Museum
Virtual Astronomy Live
Visualizing Spaceflight Experiences
PAST EVENT
Thursday, Aug 20th
5:00PM to 7:00PM EDT
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will present a Virtual Astronomy Live program on Thursday, August 20 from 5:30pm-7:00pm ET. This free event will explore the visualization of spaceflight experiences.
Hear from Jason Craig, Visualization Producer of NASA’s Eyes software at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as he talks through Eyes on the Solar System, a program that lets you explore the planets, their moons, asteroids, comets and the spacecraft exploring them. He will be joined by Bob Palmer, software engineer, freelance game developer and 3D artist who will discuss walking the line between realistic visual design of space exploration parts while keeping them fun for a video game audience.
A pre-show will take place at 5:00pm EST exploring immersive astronaut training. Learn about how NASA simulates the harsh conditions of space with Elysia Segal, lead teaching artist and educator at the Intrepid Museum.
The event is suitable for all ages. For more information and to register, visit www.intrepidmuseum.org.
The event is hosted and co-produced by John “Das” Galloway, founder of the Kerbal Space Academy, and moderated by Summer Ash, an astrophysicist, rocket scientist and freelance writer. This is the fifth in a monthly series of Virtual Astronomy Live programs. The next iteration on September 17 will feature the Exploration of Asteroids in our Solar System.
This program is supported through a NASA Cooperative Agreement awarded to the New York Space Grant Consortium.
